Mariah Carey has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a moment she describes as a "huge honour" with characteristic humility. The legendary singer, who first became eligible in 2024, finds herself among an impressive group of nominees including Cyndi Lauper and Billy Idol. Despite her uncertainty about winning, Carey remains excited about the recognition and continues to challenge genre boundaries. Her recent Icon Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards further underscores her significant impact on the music industry.

"That's a huge honour. I don't know if I'm going to win it, so I don't want to get too excited about it," she said in an interview, reported People.

"So, I just want to say that, again, it's a huge honor and I guess I didn't expect it. I wasn't really thinking about it. And here we here," added Mariah.

Carey was nominated in 2024, but was not selected. In February, it was announced that she was among the nominees once again, alongside stars like Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, OutKast and Oasis.

"I don't really know if genre matters," she said, adding, "I feel like people are more open to all different genres, much more than they were, you know? But I feel like a rock star sometimes," as per the outlet.

Artists and bands become eligible for nomination 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording, and Carey's debut came out in 1990, as per the outlet.

This year's inductees will be revealed later this month, with a ceremony set to take place in Los Angeles in the fall.

Carey was recently honoured with the Icon Award at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, "On this Saint Patrick's Day, I want to honor my mother Patricia Carey for giving me the gift of music," she said.

"Thank you iHeart for this incredible honour. As a kid, I used to listen to my favorite artist on the radio and dream of being on the airwave myself. Now, for those of you who may not know what airwaves are, think of it as the non-WiFi version of streaming, okay?" Carey said elsewhere in her speech. "Even now I still get excited when I hear one of my songs playing on the radio. It never stops being magical," reported People.

I love Mariah but is she really rock? The Hall seems to be stretching definitions these days. Still, her impact on music is undeniable.

Her humility is so refreshing. After all these years and records sold, she still gets excited hearing her songs on radio. That's true love for music right there.

The airwaves joke had me cracking up! She's not just talented but genuinely funny too. Hope she gets in this time!

I grew up listening to Mariah and now my daughter does too. That's the mark of a true icon across generations. Rock Hall or not, she's already legendary.
