Premier Kolkata medical institute slapped with show-cause notice by UGC

Kolkata, Feb 1: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has slapped a show-cause notice on Kolkata's iconic Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research, often popularly referred to as the S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital for failure to submit an "anti-ragging declaration" lists from their students and their guardians to it.

Confusions galore over death of minor suspected of Guillain Barre Syndrome

Kolkata, Jan 28: A day after the West Bengal Health department said that there is nothing to panic about the Guillain Barre Syndrome in the state since neither this is a new disease nor there had been fresh reports of new individuals getting affected by it since December last year, confusion has started glaring over the death of a minor student having died on Wednesday reportedly after being affected by the same disease.

Bengal 'expired' saline case: Expert report does not out rule out impact of injected liquids

Kolkata, Jan 21: While the West Bengal government is sticking to its stand that the doctor's negligence was the reason behind the death of one woman and a newborn baby at a state-run hospital in West Midnapore district earlier this month, an expert committee of the state health department has not ruled out the possibility of adverse impact of injection of essential liquids like Ringers' Lactate and oxytocin triggering the mishaps.
