TN fishermen protest Chennai Marina loop road project

Chennai, April 3: Fishermen from 10 coastal villages, stretching from Nochikuppam to Srinivasa Puram (Mullikuppam) in Chennai, staged a massive protest on the Marina Loop Road on Thursday, demanding the establishment of a protected traditional fishing zone in the area.

Centre allocated Rs 3,490 crore for fishing harbours to promote exports

New Delhi, March 18: The Centre has allocated Rs 3,490 crore as financial assistance to the states, Union Territories, and implementing agencies for the construction of fishing harbours, fish landing centres, and modernisation and maintenance dredging of existing fishing harbours to promote seafood exports which have doubled to Rs. 60,523.89 crore in the last 10 years, the Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
