Minister directs comprehensive monsoon preparedness for Gurugram
GMDA instructed to develop innovative water drainage solutions
Officials warned about maintaining drainage infrastructure
Pollution Control Board to monitor chemical water discharge
The meeting was attended by MCG Commissioner Ashok Garg, Additional Commissioner Y. S. Gupta, and GMDA officials in Gurugram. While giving necessary guidelines to the officials, the Cabinet Minister emphasized that all arrangements should be completed in advance to prevent excessive rainfall and waterlogging during the rainy season. He directed them to take necessary measures by coordinating with all the departmental officers of the district. Additionally, he stressed that the cleaning work of all drainage and sewerage should be completed within the stipulated time period before the monsoon, and that the cleaning of drains on both sides of the national highway passing through the district should be given priority.
The minister added that MCG and GMDA should focus on finding a permanent solution for drainage of water in the next three years, rather than relying on a pump system. To address the waterlogging situation in the green belt during the rainy season, he suggested that GMDA officials create a trial pit of a certain width at identified locations. He mentioned that this pit should be filled with bricks and stones up to one foot above ground level, which would help increase the water level naturally at a low cost.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of cleaning the Yamuna in Delhi. In this context, the Pollution Control Board officials should ensure that chemical-laden water from factories does not enter the drainage system of Gurugram," the minister stated. Regarding the desilting of the Najafgarh drain in the Delhi area, he mentioned that he would soon discuss this matter with the Delhi government.
He also informed the officials that it had come to his notice that, despite his instructions, the adjacent drains were not being cleaned during the ongoing road repair work in the city. This negligence could result in road damage due to overflow from drains during the monsoon. The Industry Minister concluded by urging officers to continuously monitor the quality of work and the prescribed procedures; otherwise, they should be prepared for necessary action.
