CAQM invokes Stage I of GRAP in Delhi-NCR as air quality deteriorates

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has activated Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR due to deteriorating air quality. The decision comes after the Air Quality Index dropped to the 'poor' category, triggering immediate environmental intervention measures. All 27 specified actions must now be implemented by relevant pollution control agencies across the national capital region. The sub-committee has additionally requested citizen cooperation to effectively manage and improve the current air quality situation.

New Delhi, April 2: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-I in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect after the national capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 'poor' category on Wednesday.

The decision was taken on the basis of the daily average AQI provided by the Central Pollution Control Board, the CAQM said in a statement.

As per the decision of the CAQM sub-committee on GRAP, all 27 actions as envisaged under Stage-I of GRAP - 'Poor' Air Quality (DELHI AQI ranging between 201- 300) are to be implemented in right earnest by all the agencies concerned in NCR.

Various agencies including Pollution Control Boards (PCBs) of NCR States and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) have been asked to ensure strict implementation of actions of Stage-I under GRAP during this period, according to the statement.

The Sub-Committee has urged the citizens of NCR to cooperate in implementing GRAP and follow the steps mentioned in the Citizen Charter of Stage I of GRAP.

Earlier, CAQM has revoked the GRAP Stage-I in Delhi-NCR after the national capital's Air Quality Index was recorded at 153 (moderate category) on March 29.

Same cycle every year... implement GRAP, revoke GRAP, implement again. We need permanent solutions, not temporary measures. The construction near my area never stops regardless of air quality!
