The actor was drawn to Cooper's collaborative filmmaking approach, finding the experience more meaningful than a quick cameo. Despite having a smaller role in 'Maestro', Bomer felt the project offered a more immersive artistic journey. His choice reflects a commitment to quality over quantity in his acting career.

Washington DC, April 11: Actor Matt Bomer revealed that he decided to step away from the role of Ken in Greta Gerwig's Barbie because he wanted to spend more time with Bradley Cooper's 'Maestro', Variety reported.

Key Points

1

Bomer opted out of Barbie to focus on Maestro

2

Collaborative experience with Bradley Cooper was pivotal

3

Small role in Maestro had significant artistic impact

4

Actor prioritized depth over multiple film appearances

Actor Bomer could've appeared in not just one but two Oscar best picture nominees in 2023, but he decided to keep the skill of multi-tasking at bay to solely focus on one project.

The "Mid-Century Modern" star has previously shared that he had auditioned to play one of the Kens in Greta Gerwig's blockbuster comedy but eventually exited talks to spend time with his family.

In an interview with Business Insider, as quoted by Variety, the actor revealed that he also decided to step away from 'Barbie' to have more time to focus on Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein biopic, 'Maestro'.

He credited his interest towards the 'Maestro' to Bradley Cooper's collaborative efforts from the start of the film's production.

"Even though my part in 'Maestro' was smaller, Bradley was so collaborative with me from the get-go. It was such an immersive experience that to have just flown in from London to film my scenes [in 'Barbie'] really quick and fly back to London -- I feel like 'Maestro' wouldn't have been the same experience for me." said Bomer.

In Maestro, Bomer played David Oppenheim, a lover of Cooper's Bernstein. Though his role is largely contained to the film's first half, Bomer expressed to Business Insider, as quoted by Variet, that his time on Maestro had a profound impact on his approach toward films.

"It was a way of working that I'm really grateful that I got to be exposed to," Bomer said. "I wouldn't have, I think, if I were trying to just squeeze it in," added Bomer as quoted by Variety.

Bomer currently stars alongside Nathan Lane and Nathan Lee Graham on Hulu's new comedy series Mid-Century Modern. It follows the three gay men suddenly living together after an unexpected death.

Respect his choice to focus on quality over quantity! Maestro was such a beautiful film, and his performance was subtle yet powerful. Sometimes smaller roles leave bigger impacts. 👏

I get his reasoning, but part of me still wonders what his Ken would've looked like! The Kens were one of the best parts of Barbie.

Interesting perspective. I think actors often feel pressured to take every big opportunity, but Bomer's choice shows maturity. Maestro needed that level of commitment.

While I respect his decision, I can't help but feel this article overstates the impact. Many actors juggle multiple projects successfully. The family time reason makes more sense to me than the artistic one.

Matt Bomer is so underrated! His performance in Maestro was brief but memorable. Can't wait to see Mid-Century Modern - the cast looks amazing!

Both films were great in different ways. Smart move choosing the project that aligned more with his artistic goals. Barbie didn't need him, but Maestro definitely benefited from his presence.
