Amaravati, Dec 17
The government of Andhra Pradesh will allot 10 more acres for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Amaravati, announced Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday.
Addressing the maiden convocation of AIIMS, Mangalagiri, Chandrababu Naidu highlighted the significant support provided by the state government, which allocated 183 acres of prime land in Mangalagiri—an allocation unmatched by any other AIIMS in the country. He mentioned that in response to the AIIMS officials' request for more land, an additional 10 acres will soon be allotted to the institute.
Naidu noted that the foundation for the 960-bedded AIIMS was laid in 2018 and completed with an investment of Rs 1618 crore. He expressed his happiness that within just six years, the AIIMS has gained national recognition. He announced that more facilities will be provided to the institute and praised AIIMS for offering medical services to patients at a nominal fee of Rs 10. He expressed hope that the institution would soon achieve the top rank in the country, as it currently holds the eighth position.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of incorporating the latest technology into the medical field, stating that medical science has now evolved into medtech science. He called upon medical students to gain proficiency in advanced technologies like DeepTech, underscoring the need to progress towards a system where patients visit hospitals primarily during emergencies.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, was the chief guest at the convocation. Naidu reflected on her inspiring journey from a remote village in Odisha, where she was born into a tribal family, to becoming the first citizen of the nation. He highlighted her impressive career trajectory—from a teacher to a professor, junior assistant, councillor, chairperson, MLA, minister in her home state's Cabinet, and eventually governor.
Naidu remarked that President Murmu’s story is a testament to the idea that anyone can achieve their goals through hard work and dedication.
