NEW YORK
The Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY), under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, proudly announces the return of the Young Korean Artists Series.
Initially launched in 2022 in collaboration with the CJ Cultural Foundation, this initiative aims to unearth and nurture the future luminaries of Korean art across diverse genres. With a commitment to enriching the cultural fabric, this collaboration seeks to elevate Korean artists residing in New York onto the global stage.
The 2024 edition of this vibrant series will unfold at KCCNY's contemporary venue located at 122 E. 32nd Street, New York City, on March 29th and 30th, with an exclusive film screening event set for April 6th. Attendance is complimentary, though reservations are necessary.
Spotlight on Musical Prodigies
This year's lineup features two extraordinary talents:
- DoYeon Kim, an alumna of the CJ Music Scholarship (2016-2018), acclaimed for her innovative blend of traditional Korean Gayageum with Western musical influences.
- Dabin Ryu, a recent CJ Music Scholarship awardee (2018-2020) and a rising star on the jazz circuit, celebrated for clinching the top spot in Jazz Piano at the prestigious 2024 UNISA International Music Competition.
STORY UP Shorts: A Cinematic Revelation
Adding a cinematic dimension to the series, April 6th heralds the New York premiere of STORY UP Shorts. This collection will showcase six award-winning short films by budding Korean directors, poised to follow in the illustrious footsteps of filmmakers like Bong Joon-Ho and Park Chan-Wook. Audiences are invited to immerse themselves in the groundbreaking visions and narratives of Korea's emerging cinematic talents.
