West Bengal's Kiriteshwari selected as 'Best Tourism Village of India' by Union tourism ministry

est Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced that Kiriteshwari, located in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, has been selected as the 'Best Tourism Village of India' by the Union Tourism Ministry under Best Tourism Village Competition-2023.

Taking to 'X', CM Banerjee said, "Glad to share and announce that Kiriteshwari in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal has been selected by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, as the Best Tourism Village of India. The selection has happened in the Best Tourism Village Competition, 2023, from among 795 applications received from 31 States/ UTs. MoT, GoI will give away awards on 27th September in New Delhi. I congratulate the people of the village. Jai Bangla!"

According to an official statement, the Best Tourism Villages Competition seeks to honor a village that best exemplifies a rural tourism destination.

It showcases the renowned cultural and natural assets, preserves and promotes community-based values, goods, and lifestyles of the villages in India.

The aim of the competition is to promote tourism as one of the key drivers of rural development and community well-being.

In February this year, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy launched the Best Tourism Village Competition Portal in the national capital with the purpose of the promoion of tiurism in the country.

In order to select the 'Best Tourism village', a district level committee is constituted to carry out the evaluation on the district level.

The committee forwards the names of three best villages for state level evaluation and the latter forwards their three best villages for the national level evaluation.
