hunes announced that it has appointed Mike Raath as CTO and Dawei Wang as the Head of Strategy. These leadership appointments follow a push from the company to expand further its product offerings and grow its network.
Thunes facilitates the movement of funds to and from emerging countries for financial institutions and technology companies. Covering more than 100 countries and 60 currencies, the leading cross-border payment network is looking to develop its payment ecosystem into more markets. Major players in the industry such as Paypal, Singtel, Western Union, Grab already rely on Thunes' platform to seamlessly connect to a variety of payout methods in some of the hardest to reach markets around the world.
Mike Raath joins as CTO and is looking at developing new features and capabilities for Thunes' partners as well as reimagining the way the technology is used today. A seasoned tech expert with more than 20 years of international experience for companies such as Fox Network, Naspers (Showmax and DStv), and Barclays, Mike brings a new perspective to the company. In his new role, Mike will also have to quadruple his team of developers in less than a year to answer the growing demand of our partners.
I'm excited to be joining a company that focuses on financial inclusion for those from the emerging markets of the world. I believe that the solutions Thunes put in place help corporates and their individual customers in terms of how they receive payments and send money enabling them to contribute to their local community or family. I feel we all share that passion and drive and are determined to make a difference, commented Mike.
Thunes' overall strategy will also be finetuned by Dawei Wang's growth and M&A advisory expertise. In recent years, working for EY-Parthenon and JPMorgan amongst others, Dawei has advised the CxOs of some of the largest global financial institutions, PE/VC investors, and FinTechs on their most pressing strategic and capital-related agendas. As the newly appointed Head of Strategy, Dawei will be heading the company's growth initiatives and acquisitions to accelerate Thunes' speed to market as well as ensuring the company stays on track to double its volume year on year.
It's an exciting time to join the company and explore the endless possibilities for our partners to send and receive money. Thunes' unique value proposition and its connections to all payment systems really make a difference in people's lives. I'm thrilled to join such a highly passionate and high performing team, noted Dawei from London, where he will be based.
The company started solving the cross-border payment challenges in 2016 and has quickly attracted talent and partners all around the world. With offices in Singapore, London, Shanghai and New York, Thunes' employees come from different backgrounds and represent 28 nationalities.
The passion that moves our people is reflected in the difference we make in the world. We are delighted that Mike and Dawei have joined Thunes and will drive the company forward into the next growth phase, said Peter De Caluwe, CEO of Thunes.
