Nasik City Information
Nasik is the town with 200 temples and picturesque bathing ghats on the banks of the Godavari River. It has places associated with stories from the Epic Ramayana and is also referred to as 'Rambhumi'.
The city forms a part of the Mumbai-Pune-Nasik industrial triangle. It is also known for best quality grapes. In Nasik, Kumbhamela is held once in every 12 years.
Places of Interest:
Trimbakeshwar temple - The temple has one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India. It is considered to be the holiest place to perform Shraddha ceremony. Non Hindus are not allowed.
Sundarnarayan Temple - Sundarnarayan temple has small carvings of Hanuman, Narayana and Indra on the walls. It is a Vaishavite temple with three black Vishnu images.
Deolali Camp - It is an important Indian military center set up by the British in 1861. An officer of the rank of Major General holds the position of the head of the Artillery school.
Kalaram Mandir - This temple has idol of lord Ram in black colour. The building stands in the middle of a walled enclosure with 96 pillars and has a 25 m high 'Sikhara'.
